What this test checks

Detects myogenin protein in tissue, which is a marker of muscle-forming cells. Used to confirm rhabdomyosarcoma (a rare cancer arising from muscle) — especially important in children.

Why do people get this test?

Rhabdomyosarcoma is one of the most common soft tissue cancers in children. Myogenin positivity confirms this diagnosis and guides specific chemotherapy protocols.

When you should consider this test

• When a soft tissue tumour in a child or young person is suspected to be rhabdomyosarcoma
• When classifying soft tissue tumours with muscle differentiation
• As part of small round cell tumour work-up in children
