What this test checks

A tailored set of immunohistochemistry markers to classify non-small cell lung cancer as adenocarcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma — and to identify small cell lung cancer. This determines eligibility for targeted therapies.

Why do people get this test?

Lung cancer subtype is the foundation of treatment decisions. Adenocarcinomas may have EGFR, ALK, or ROS1 mutations amenable to targeted drugs. Squamous cancers and small cell cancers require different approaches entirely.
