What this test checks

Detects EMA, a protein expressed in epithelial cells and some lymphoma types. Used to confirm epithelial tumours, identify certain lymphomas, and diagnose meningiomas (brain covering tumours).

Why do people get this test?

EMA helps classify tumours of uncertain cell type and is particularly valuable for diagnosing meningiomas and certain plasma cell tumours. Accurate classification directs surgical and treatment planning.

When you should consider this test

• When classifying brain or meningeal tumours (meningioma)
• When distinguishing carcinoma from lymphoma or sarcoma
• As part of anaplastic large cell lymphoma or plasma cell tumour panels
