What this test checks

Detects CD5, a T-cell associated protein that is aberrantly expressed in certain B-cell lymphomas — particularly CLL and mantle cell lymphoma. Used in lymphoma classification.

Why do people get this test?

CD5 expression in B-cells is abnormal and narrows the lymphoma type to CLL or mantle cell lymphoma — two conditions with very different prognoses and treatments. This distinction is critical for management.

When you should consider this test

• When classifying small B-cell lymphomas
• When distinguishing CLL from other B-cell lymphomas
• As part of B-cell lymphoma immunophenotyping panel
