What this test checks

Detects CD34 protein, expressed in blood vessel cells, certain stem cells, and specific tumours. Used to identify vascular tumours, GIST, and certain nerve sheath tumours.

Why do people get this test?

CD34 helps confirm specific tumour types — particularly vascular tumours (haemangiomas, angiosarcomas) and GIST — enabling accurate diagnosis and targeted treatment.

When you should consider this test

• When classifying vascular tumours or soft tissue tumours
• As part of GIST diagnostic panel
• When investigating dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP)
