What this test checks

A special stain that highlights fungal organisms in tissue, making them clearly visible under microscopy. Used to diagnose invasive fungal infections in biopsies.

Why do people get this test?

Fungal infections in body tissues are serious and can be life-threatening — particularly in immunocompromised patients. GMS staining detects them reliably so antifungal treatment can begin promptly.
