Empty-stomach sugar test. Main diabetes screen.
This is your blood-sugar reading after at least 8 hours without eating. A healthy person's body keeps overnight sugar in a tight range; a number above the normal range suggests your body is having trouble managing sugar.
Fasting blood sugar is the simplest and cheapest way to screen for diabetes or pre-diabetes. It is almost always paired with the after-meal (PP) test for a fuller picture, and is a part of most general health check-ups in Nepal.
Fast for 8 to 12 hours before the test. Only plain water is allowed. If you take medicines, ask your doctor whether to take them before the test.
